For those of you who follow my blog, it’s no secret that I love the adorable hedgehog stamps. A couple of weeks ago my good friend, Jodi McKinney of Life In Between, showed up at my studio with a surprise package for me – what could it be?! I pulled the tissue paper out of the bag and discovered … my very own hedgehog! He’s now residing in my display window with a front row seat to watch the antics of my living, breathing front yard groundhog “friends.” (BTW: did you know our infamous Punxy Phil became the mascot for Groundhog’ Day, because he is the U.S. animal bearing the closest resemblance to the hedgehog; the hedgehog is actually the original weather forecaster!)
I wanted to let Jodi know how much I appreciated having my own personal hedgehog, so, I naturally had to make her an appropriate hedgehog thank you card! I chose this retired Holiday Hedgehog stamp and simply used my SU Early Espresso marker to ink the hedgehogs, without the candy cane. I filled in the hands and feet, where necessary, with the fine tip point of the marker and then fussy cut each of the hedgehogs.
My background is simply a few pieces of Lullaby DSP matted with Coastal Cabana and mounted onto Hello Honey, then run through the Tiny Triangles EF for texture. With the hedgehog’s hands outstretched, I felt they should be holding something – the heart from the owl punch worked beautifully. The tiny scallop circles with the Coastal Cabana rhinestones were as a result of an “uh-oh” glue spot on the ribbon. I quite like the way they add a sparkly finishing touch to this card.
