Life happens — isn’t that a true statement?! My life has certainly taken many twists and turns over the past year; I’m so thankful the Lord is in complete control and I can rest peacefully in that assurance! While my blog entries have been non-existent and my crafting moments have been limited; I’m still enjoying opportunities to spend time in my studio. This past weekend, I had opportunity to create this card to celebrate the fact that LIFE HAPPENS! My dear coworker just welcomed her first child into the world and this card will be finding its way to her mailbox very soon. I used the Pals Paper Arts Sketch, coupled with the Stampin’ Up Only challenge featuring the soon-to-retire Cherry on Top DSP.
The baby actually appears on the inside of the card, with the shaker frame popped up on the front (it was difficult to photograph the card’s dimension, as the flash kept “bouncing off” the window.)
The new foam adhesive strips (currently available for demonstrator’s on pre-order) are absolutely amazing for shaker cards!
I hope you all are doing well, my friends!
Fab Friday’s challenge this week is to create a baby card in celebration of Mindy’s son’s recent arrival – congratulations Mindy! Something for Baby seemed to be the appropriate stamp set to use; it was actually the first time I had opened the set. I decided to go with a fun fold, using the baby carriage as my focal image. To jazz up the carriage a bit, I masked around the base and stamped the carriage with the hounds tooth pattern from the Tape It set. I then added some dashed lines onto the carriage top and cut it out, mounting it with a pop dot over the original image to add some dimension; an Island Indigo candy dot was applied to coordinate with the matte.
I wanted the greeting to match the DSP; but, I didn’t want to stamp directly onto the DSP. So, I used the circle stamp from Work of Art to add coordinating circle images onto the Whisper White greeting; then, I surround it with Coastal Cabana ruffle trim to serve as a frame for the focal image when the card is closed. For the bottom of the gift card holder section, I used Bordering Blooms (love that set). Finishing touch was a heart embosslit accented with a medium rhinestone.

My daughter and son-in-law posted their exciting news on Facebook tonight; so, I’m now free to tell the world, that they’re expecting their first baby and our first grandbaby. I couldn’t be happier for them; I know they’re going to be awesome parents! As soon as they posted their announcement, I scooted down to my studio and designed this card using this week’s Retrosketches sketch. I stamped the bear, then masked over him while I stamped the Gorgeous Grunge background. The ribbon border was a bit heavier than I wanted, so I simply trimmed it in half and it felt “just right.” An In Color Boutique embellishment seemed to be the perfect finishing touch!

A Tall and Skinny card was the challenge for this week’s Mojo Monday 330. For some reason my mind immediately flitted to my Alphabet Dies and using a word for the vertical strip. The new Watercolor Wonder paper has had me in a baby card mode, so I decided to spell out the word “Baby” and make yet another baby card. Shadowing the Daffodil Delight letters with Tangerine Tango, took me back to my scrapbooking days! The Hung Up Cute Clip paired beautifully with the Baby Tees onesie; then, I used a bit of Baker’s Twine to serve as a “clothes line” across the greeting.

This weeks’s Friday Mashup was to create a project with stars. I chose a retired set, Nursery Necessities, to use with the new Watercolor Wonder paper to make a baby card appropriate for a boy or a girl. The Flowering Flourishes image served as my central image which I then surrounded with the Nursery Necessities star inked in the colors represented on the Watercolor paper, Tangerine Tango, Gumball Green and Daffodil Delight. I punched a few mini stars from the Watercolor Wonder paper and used those as the finishing accents.

This adorable little bear worked beautifully for the Mojo Monday 329 Sketch which I coupled with Dynamic Duos color challenge of Pool Party and Pink Pirouette. I was in the mood to “quilt” this evening; so, I made a “baby blanket” to serve as the background for Baby Bear. I used a ¾” punch to punch my squares, then snipped each square diagonally and pieced the triangles together to form the quilt. For the quilt’s finishing touch, I ran it through the Big Shot using a Darice circle EF. I masked Baby Bear in order to stamp the dotted background; then, I ran the top of the card through the big shot to add a polka dot texture for a complimentary background. Using the blender pen allowed me to accomplish the necessary shading, while staying true to only using Pink Pirouette and a skin color marker. I just love the personality of Baby Bear and hope that he brings a smile to your day!
