It was SO nice to be back enjoying some leisure time in my studio. A dear friend has a birthday this week and I wanted to make her an extra special card. I was inspired by the CQC 280 Color Challenge (though, I admit the Wisteria Wonder was causing me some difficulties – but, a simple candy dot on the flower, allowed me to incorporate the color) and decided some paper quilting was in order to blend these beautiful colors. I didn’t have any Blackberry Bliss DSP, so I selected a Delicate Doily stamp and proceeded to make my own DSP. One inch squares punched from the center of each Blackberry Bliss doily gave me a complimentary DSP to the Birthday Basics Raspberry Ripple I had selected. I cut each one inch square into triangles and proceeded with my layout, which is this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. For the greeting, a stamped a Flowering Flourish, then heat embossed a black greeting on top of the flourish. Time to get the card in the mail and then off to work I go – have a wonderful Monday everyone!
I have a confession to make. I love making cards for the special people in my life (no secret there); but, I’m TERRIBLE at actually getting the cards in the mail on time. Does anybody else face that problem?!
My long-time friend and SU upline, Cindy Brumbaugh, had a birthday this week and I wanted to make a special card for her; I used the Retrosketch challenge for the layout featuring the soft, feminine Blushing Bride color. I’ve recently been using stamps for my backgrounds and found myself once again implementing that technique with this card. While the Flowering Flourishes serve as the focal image of the card; they are also peeking through from the background, tying the entire card together.
Cindy’s birthday has come and gone and guess what’s still sitting on my desk?! Thankfully, I was able to share her card with her electronically and I will hand deliver it to her soon!

This weeks’s Friday Mashup was to create a project with stars. I chose a retired set, Nursery Necessities, to use with the new Watercolor Wonder paper to make a baby card appropriate for a boy or a girl. The Flowering Flourishes image served as my central image which I then surrounded with the Nursery Necessities star inked in the colors represented on the Watercolor paper, Tangerine Tango, Gumball Green and Daffodil Delight. I punched a few mini stars from the Watercolor Wonder paper and used those as the finishing accents.

This week’s Paper Players Challenge was to combine Rich Razzleberry (one of my very favorite colors!), Pool Party and Basic Black. I love using the Mixed Bunch flowers with Rich Razzleberry ink – it always offers a deep, rich image. To complement the image with something other than ribbon, I laid the Flowering Flourish sideways to add an embossed accent to each side of the “flower” and then ran the stamped strip through the Big Shot with the Finishing Touches Edgelit. A hint of Pool Party peeking out from underneath the Rich Razzleberry and a Pool Party Candy Dot added the third color and the final touches.
