Freshly Made Sketches 109: Christmas Quilt

2013.10.26 FRESHLY MADE SKETCHES NON-SU

I found myself leisurely strolling through my favorite scrapbook store this afternoon soaking in the inspiring displays.  I didn’t really need anything; but, was delighted when I happened across a ¾” square punch.  I love making quilt cards and I had desired a smaller square punch, so that I could keep the detail in my “quilts” without having a massive finished product.  While I was wandering, I also happened across a line of paper that I thought would make a beautiful Christmas “quilt.”  Before I knew it I was walking out the door with a bagful of goodies and heading straight to my studio!

I had a lot of fun punching the various papers with my new punch and then piecing them all together for this background quilt.  The finished product gives the appearance that it’s just a single sheet of patterned paper; but, it’s actually 20 squares pieced together.  I fussy cut the 1/8” border and used my faithful Xyron machine for applying the adhesive.  Once it was fully assembled, I pulled out a new embossing folder that I’d been itching to use on a quilt card and ran the quilt and the ivory background through the Big Shot. Four mini-gold brads in the corners and a few dabs of Dazzling Details on the berries added the finishing touches.
